Stokes Tea and Coffee are a family run business that have responsible, social and environmental practices. We are concerned for the future, respect the environment and buy responsibly. We buy better and inspire change in our people, our partners, our customers, our community and our business.
Established in 1902, we still retain the traditions that are part of being a family business but ensure that we stay ahead with the latest technologies and, since 2011, roast our coffee with our eco-friendly Loring Smart Roaster which instantly reduced our carbon emissions.
Our approach to business is guided by commitments to many principles including consistency of quality, transparency, customer service, integrity, value for money and honest hard work. Our objectives are to minimise environmental impacts in the areas of waste, water, energy and air quality.
Our three cafés minimise their waste production and follow a sustainability journey of measure, manage, reduce and certify. We look to source our products from local suppliers to considerably reduce the need for sea and air freight. We invest in products that are recyclable and reusable including refillable bottles, water filters and recyclable take away cups. We began to use paper straws long before the ‘stop sucking’ project began and encourage our customers to re-use coffee grounds in their gardens.
Our head office admin team use both sides of paper when printing, switch off monitors and reuse, recycle cardboard and printer ink cartridges – all within a building running on low energy LED lighting.
Whenever possible, we purchase our coffee and tea through those companies that have direct links to the coffee farmers so that we know where every penny goes. We also use organisations such as Fair Trade and the Rainforest Alliance and support charities that encourage better medical care and education in coffee growing communities. We regularly donate to charity raffles and will continue to interact with and care about our community.
