Coffee beans come in a wide range of complex flavours. Much the same as wine a great tasting coffee is one that appeals to you personally. Here are some simple characteristics to consider when tasting coffee. Remember we are always more than happy to chat with you about the coffee you like and track it down for you. The acidity is a pleasant, tangy feeling left on the tip of the tongue. A coffee with too little or no acid will taste flat and lifeless, whilst one that is very acid will leave a tangy feeling lasting several minutes.
The aroma although very strong when coffee is roasted, ground or even brewed, the aroma should be subtle and only set up your taste expectations before drinking.
The body,
as for wine, is the feeling of
richness, thickness
and heaviness
that the
liquid will leave
in your mouth.
Easy to detect and analyse,
simply move
the coffee
from the back to the front of the
mouth,
working
it
over
and through the tongue.
Coffee that is
full-bodied will
have a detectable
volume
and
texture whilst a
light-bodied
one
will seem
watery and thin.
The flavour
is the method by
which
the
tongue will
interpret the
aromatic
characteristics
of the
coffee
whilst in
the
mouth.
It conveys a
specific
taste or
flavour
such as
chocolatey,
spicy,
nutty or smokey.
